EDUCATION SYSTEM IN GERMANY

The education system in Germany comprises of pre-school, primary, secondary and tertiary education. Education is compulsory for children in the age range of 6 – 15 years. science, Business, IT are main fields of study for undergraduate courses. Around 45% of graduates pursue master’s degree. Engineering, Medicine and Business is most sought after fields for postgraduate courses.

TYPES OF INSTITUTION

Tertiary education in Germany is provided by ‘General or Technical universities, Universities of applied science or through ‘Colleges of Art(film, music, painting, etc.). There are approximately 422 higher education institutions in Germany with 108 universities, 210 universities of applied sciences, 52 colleges of art and music, 30 colleges of public administration, 16 theological universities and 6 colleges of education.

ADMISSIONS

Students need to acquire visa for studying in Germany. Students need to apply by filing application forms carefully. They need to mention transcript of school grades and proof of language proficiency. For a german taught program students would need to pass language proficiency tests like TestDAF and DSH. For English taught programs students might need to show IELTS or TOEFL scores. Students can apply through the website www.uni-assist.de, a centralized admissions portal for international students. However, few universities may not use this.
