NCERT Solutions for Class 7 Biology Chapter 3 Weather, Climate and Adaptations of Animals to Climate

Climate has a profound effect on all living organisms. Animals are adapted to survive in the conditions in which they live. Animals living in freezing and hot climate must possess special features to protect themselves against the extreme cold or heat. Animals often adapt themselves to the climatic conditions in which they are living. The weather at a place frequently changes, as it is based on day to day conditions of the atmosphere at a place, concerning the temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed etc. The average weather taken over a long time is called climate. The climate of a place is defined as the average weather conditions at a particular location over a long period, say 25-30 years or more. “Adaptation is the physical or behavioural characteristic of an organism that helps an organism to survive better in the surrounding environment.” Living things are adapted to the habitat they live in.
