In May 1857, the English East India Company faced a massive rebellion. In several places, sepoys mutinied beginning from Meerut, and a large number of people from different sections of society rose in rebellion. It is considered as the most significant armed resistance to colonialism in the nineteenth century. Aurangzeb was considered as the last vital and powerful Mughal ruler of India. After his death, the Mughal rulers only had a symbolic presence.
