About SAT | What is SAT Exam?


The Scholastic Assessment Test is a standardized test widely used to take admission in most colleges in the USA and across the world at the undergraduate level. The SAT is administered by Educational Testing services which are developed and published by the College Board in over 25000 test centres across 192 countries. It is a benchmark test that helps assess the student's abilities. This test conducted 7 times in a year in October, November, December, January, March, May and June. The SAT has two main sections - Verbal and Mathematics. Since 19th January 2021, the College Board has discontinued the optional essay section, as well as its SAT Subject Tests, after June 2021.

II. SAT Subject Test (Not Valid Any More)

Early, the SAT subject test conducted by the College Board on individual subjects for admission, course placement and course selection. Subject Tests measure your knowledge and skills in particular subject areas and your ability to apply that knowledge. The SAT subject exam syllabus evaluates test taker's knowledge of specific topics in the science, math, and language streams. The SAT Subject Tests are the only national admissions tests that give you the opportunity to show hold of content in the specific subjects such as English, history, mathematics, science, foreign languages and various other subjects. Many colleges use the Subject Tests for admission, for course placement, and to advise students about course selection. Some colleges specify the Subject Tests that they require for admission or placement others allow applicants to choose which tests to take. These tests give you and colleges a very reliable measure of how prepared you are for college-level work in particular subjects. Used in combination with other background information, they provide a dependable measure of your academic achievement and are a good predictor of future college performance in specific subject areas. There are 20 SAT Subject Tests which are divided into 5 subject areas. These subjects are further categorized into smaller topics. The SAT subject test consists of the following five main subjects :-
1. English Literature,
2. History (U.S. or World),
3. Mathematics (Level 1 or Level 2),
4. Science (Biology-Ecological, Biology-Molecular, Chemistry or Physics),
5. Languages (Chinese, French, Hebrew, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Spanish or German).

Some world language tests could be taken in one of two varieties - Listening and Without Listening. Spanish, French and German fall into this category. This listening test required students to answer prerecorded questions from an audio track. The choice between taking the listening and non-listening variants was a matter of student preference. Chinese, Japanese and Korean Subject Tests had a mandatory listening component, while Italian, Latin and Modern Hebrew didn't feature listening at all. The language you chose would depend on your coursework.

III. SAT General Test

SAT general test assesses candidate's general college preparation as well as their capacity for resolving basic language and math problems. Among the two SAT exams, the SAT General Test is the more commonly approached by undergraduate schools for admissions. Undergraduate universities typically use the SAT exam syllabus to evaluates applicant's verbal (reading), mathematical, and written abilities. A candidate's general knowledge and critical thinking skills are evaluated as part of the SAT General Test course.
